Rutledge man facing weapon and drugs charges
A Rutledge man is facing multiple charges after probations officers reportedly found drugs and a weapon in his possession during a home visit. Jimmy Brown, 49, was reportedly found to be in possession of a 9mm handgun and approximately 16 grams of methamphetamine.

The "big red barn" on Hwy 11W, between Bean Station and Rutledge, has been open to the public for nearly 20 years, leased out and operated by multiple Grainger County families. Recently, the primary land owner, Keith Horner, decided he was no longer going to lease out the farm and business.
Grainger County students inducted into Phi Theta Kappa
Several Grainger County students were among 52 new members inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa honor society at Walters State Community College during the fall 2016 semester. Two Grainger County residents were among 274 students who recently achieved an educational goal by earning a degree at Tusculum College. The accomplishments of these graduates were celebrated during the Winter Commencement Ceremonies Saturday, Dec. 10, at Tusculum College.
Blaine contracts for pictometry
The city has agreed to join other government agencies in Grainger County to participate in an aerial-imaging program designed to aid different departments in their work. The board of mayor and aldermen voted Monday to add $3,000 a year to the city's service contract with E911 for the service known as pictometry.

The complete history of the Nance House remains a mystery. Most of Grainger County's paper records, dated pre-1880s, were destroyed when the storage vault in the courthouse flooded in the 1980s.
